Location: Wuse, Abuja
Experience Level: Minimum of 10 Years
Salary Budget: ₦700,000 – ₦900,000 (Monthly Gross)

Job Summary

The Head, Human Resources is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the hospitals human capital management. The role oversees recruitment, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, compensation and benefits, compliance, and workplace culture.

Working closely with the COO and senior management, the Head, Human Resources will ensure the hospital attracts, develops, motivates, and retains a high-performing workforce while maintaining compliance with Nigerian labour laws and healthcare regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Workforce Planning

  • Plan, manage, and oversee end-to-end recruitment processes including workforce planning, job postings, candidate sourcing, interviews, and selection.

  • Ensure recruitment practices are fair, transparent, compliant with labour laws, and aligned with diversity and inclusion objectives.

  • Partner with department heads to address staffing needs and workforce gaps.

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Address employee concerns, grievances, and disciplinary matters in a fair, timely, and professional manner.

  • Mediate disputes and resolve conflicts between employees and management.

  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.

  • Drive employee engagement initiatives to improve morale, retention, and productivity.

Learning, Development & Succession Planning

  • Identify training and development needs across departments.

  • Design, coordinate, and evaluate training and capacity-building programmes.

  • Support employee career development, leadership development, and succession planning initiatives.

Compensation, Benefits & Performance Management

  • Manage employee compensation and benefits programmes including salaries, bonuses, health insurance, pensions, and other benefits.

  • Ensure compensation structures remain competitive, equitable, and aligned with industry benchmarks.

  • Oversee employee performance management processes, including goal setting, performance appraisals, and feedback mechanisms.

HR Strategy, Policy & Compliance

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of HR strategies aligned with the hospitals overall business and operational goals.

  • Develop, review, and enforce HR policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Stay current with Nigerian labour laws, employment regulations, and healthcare compliance requirements, ensuring full organizational adherence.

  • Maintain accurate and compliant HR records and documentation.

Health, Safety & Well-being

  • Promote workplace safety, employee well-being, and compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

  • Support initiatives that enhance staff welfare, work-life balance, and resilience.

Management Support & Advisory

  • Work closely with management to identify and address HR-related challenges and opportunities.

  • Provide HR advisory support to leadership on organizational development, workforce issues, and change management.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations & Personnel Management, or any Social Science discipline.

  • Masters degree is an added advantage.

  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM); SHRM certification is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years professional HR experience, with at least 5 years in a senior HR leadership or management role.

  • Previous experience working within a hospital or healthcare environment is an added advantage.

  • Proven experience across recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR strategy.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.

  • Sound knowledge of Nigerian labour laws, healthcare regulations, and compliance requirements.

  • Proficiency in hospital management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
